My own musical career began with my first piano lessons at the age of 5 years with a lady called Miss Bell. I still remember climbing up the steps to her house, and her cat!
We relocated as a family when I was 8 years old and my lessons then continued with my Aunt. She was the "musical matriach" of my family and I am very grateful for the legacy she has left behind. I attained my Grade 8 piano under her tutelage while still in my early teens.
I later moved to London, and studied further with James Young, a graduate of the Royal School of Music and member of the London based 6 piano group called Piano CIrcus.
Being born into a family of piano teachers, I absorbed three generations worth of knowledge. My mother and aunt still also teach and we enjoy being able to share our experiences, tips and inspiration with one another.
I currently teach a wide range of ages and ability from both my home studio in South West London, and online. I particularly enjoy my "young adult returners" who learned as a child and wish to revive a half forgotten skill, and the older beginners who have perhaps always wanted to learn but never had the opportunity.
I also find a great sense of personal satisfaction in seeing the younger learners master new skills and find the reward of music.
I feel it is vital for a student to be able to relax and feel free to make mistakes. How else can any of us learn? I fully believe that as the teacher it is my responsibility to ensure we create an environment where you feel safe to "have a go". If we get this right, you or your child will learn to play, and i will simply be your guide on a wonderful musical journey.
